If you have an emissions test coming up, the last thing you want to do is fail it. At Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM of Bowie, the nearest Chrysler dealership for residents of Crofton, MD, we don’t want that either. Use some of the following advice to make sure your car passes with flying colors.
Check Engine Light
To put it plainly, if your check engine light is on, you have almost no chance of passing your emissions test. While some drivers can ignore the light indefinitely with no incident, once emissions testing comes up, it will be a fairly big problem. This is because while the check engine light might not be a sign of a problem with essential driving systems, it is almost always a sign of a problem with one of the systems the emissions test is checking.
As helpful as the check engine light is, it is also quite vague. Bring your car into the skilled technicians in our Jeep service center and allow them to find out exactly what the issue is and take of it for you.
Drive at High Speeds
Just driving your car can help a lot toward making sure it passes. This is because the machine that converts harmful emissions before expelling them, the catalytic converter, tends to build up with residual oil and gasoline causing it to malfunction. Driving at higher speeds burns much of that build-up away. Since it’s unlikely you’ll be able to sustain the speeds necessary during normal city driving, you’ll want to take your car out on the highway a few times as the test nears.
Of course, your best course of action is bringing your vehicle here to Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Bowie. We will perform a comprehensive tune-up so you have no worries on test day.
