Foresight is great and all, but the last thing you want to think about when you buy a car is selling it. That said, perhaps you shouldn’t put it out of your head completely. At Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep® RAM of Bowie near Upper Marlboro, MD, we want to help you manage your car’s depreciation. One oft-neglected area of attention is the vehicle’s interior.

Firstly, depreciation just means the gradual decline of a car’s value. You could keep your car in perfect condition and it will still depreciate. However, damage and dirtiness will only exacerbate the problem. Here are a few ways to keep your car in tip-top shape, starting with your interior.

Preventative Care

Set boundaries for yourself and your passengers. If you don’t allow eating in your car, you don’t have to worry about getting that mustard stain out of your carpet. Conversely, this can be rather difficult and impractical to enforce (particularly on yourself). When traveling with pets, consider seat covers. Also think about putting in all-weather floor mats if you often drive with young kids, or to simply protect your interior from the elements.

Reactive

On the flip side, you could just not worry so much about spills and mess and just clean them as they appear. In fact, it’s a good idea to vacuum and wipe down your interior regularly whether it appears dirty or not. Beyond just being clean, some cleaning oils have protective properties, particularly for leather, that will further preserve their new-like quality.

Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM of Bowie wants your 2018 Dodge Durango or RAM 1500 to be as close to new as you can keep it for as long as you own it.
