Accidents are an unfortunate possibility every time you get behind the wheel. Despite modern collision prevention technology, sometimes they are unavoidable. In the case of a possible accident, it’s best to be prepared, including packing an emergency kit. Here are some tips for you in the event of an accident, courtesy of the professionals at our Dodge service center.

Safety First

Before assessing any damage to your vehicle, make sure everyone in the car is safe and unharmed — and call emergency services (911) immediately, whether there is an injury or not.

If possible, move your vehicle to the shoulder or side of the road and evacuate yourself and your passengers to a safe place away from traffic. Use your emergency kit to attend to any minor injuries, if possible. The safety of you and your passengers is the top priority.

Report the Accident

Call 911 as soon as possible and safely wait for emergency services and police. Maryland law requires that you report most car accidents, so take a moment to gather any important details, including taking photos of any damage or injuries.

Once the authorities arrive, give them as much information as you can and stay calm and safe.

Exchange Information

If your accident involves other vehicles, don’t forget to exchange information with the other driver or drivers involved in the accident, including:
• Name and contact info
• Insurance company and policy number
• Driver’s license number
• License plate number
• Vehicle make, model, color, and model year
