Driving every day can cause a lot of stress for your vehicle, and it’s inevitable that some car parts will fail at some point. While the price tag on used car parts might be attractive, there are some components that should only be replaced with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) parts. Here are some car parts you should never buy used.

Car Parts to Never Buy Used

While there are some car parts you can replace with used components, there are many more that should always come from the OEM. These parts include:

  • Belts and hoses: These parts wear out over time and are best replaced by new OEM products
  • Brake components (pads, rotors, etc.): Since your brake parts tend to wear with normal use, purchasing these components used is a gamble. If you find the wrong used brake parts, you could be in serious danger on the road.
  • Alternators, batteries, and other electrical components: Wiring tends to fray over time, and used electrical parts are hard to evaluate on their own. And although an average car battery can last for 3-5 years, you want to always replace yours with a brand-new battery. To avoid getting stranded by a failed electrical system, trust our MOPAR® service center to replace these with OEM parts.
  • Starters: Your starter is part of the electrical system, bringing the entire car into life. But used starters are not to be trusted. They can fail without warning and cause a domino effect of problems. Choose a new OEM starter and avoid getting stuck in the middle of nowhere.
  • Filters: Because your filters are responsible for keeping your car’s internal systems clean, so it’s best to only replace these with new products.
